Has anyone ever kept scuds in a tank? I'm thinking of adding them to a planted tank as a source of live food. Theoretically, my small fish would eat the baby scuds and the adult scuds would help break down debris and aerate the substrate. Any tips or ideas you could throw my way would be great!

I had to look these up. Had never heard of these before. I will be interested in knowing where to get these.

I think I'm going to order them from L.F.S. Cultures (http://www.lfscultures.com/index.html) along with some vinegar eels because I've been wanting to try those for awhile now.
Sue--I've got them in my ponds & have accidentally transfered them to my aquariums. You may want to check your ponds to see if you've got any. My loaches will dig looking for the scuds.

The first thing I thought of was the scud missile...

I've been giving some thought as to getting some of these started also. I saw some on aquabid for sale. If the inhabitants of your tank is such that they could keep them from multipling fast enough, then I would suggest a small refugium, from which some of the young could flow into the main tank and supply a supplimental food source. When I design my stand for the tank I just got, I am going to try this idea out.
