Put this in the tank setup forum but wanted to get the tank buster opinion. Doing a oscar and peacock tank and like sand and gravel. Which one is better and what are you all using?

Sand can be tough on your pumps.

Like Duster said sand can be tough on pumps and filters unless u use a pre-filter which will help a little.

Im using 3M Color Quartz in the biggin
Sand is fine - just depends how your filters are setup.

i only use sand now. i had rocks in my oscar tank before i sold them. everytime i cleaned the tank, there was always endless amounts of poop, food, etc. comming from the rocks. when i put sand in there the canister would suck up most of the junk. and the rest would set on top of the sand and was easier to clean.

I've had both small sized gravel and larger gravel in with my oscars, the larger gravel would let stuff sink down into it and would be nasty to clean, the smaller gravel it seems i siphon up a lot less mess. But that might be attributed to it's easier for my catfish to come around and eat all the extra food because i'm quite the over feeder. and waste seems to build up around the rock decor instead of going into the gravel
