That is a nice fish! Must be a hardy one to survive the lay over! Where do you order your fish?

They're called black becasue when they're young, they are all black with white horizontal stripe accross their body.
When they get off their yolk sac, the develope a blue/black upper and lower fins with a touch of gold specs on their scales versus silver with pinkish/blue fins and scales.
Black arowana are only available via wild caught, noone ever been able to captive breed them therefore they don't share the defects their cousin silver have, drop eye, no barble, gill curl, bend back and etc. The only downside is that they are very expensive and picky eater..
I got him from Fish Room Plus in NJ.

PS: the tank is a 240 gallon AGA with 55 gallon sump = 270 gallon ish total volume..

Today is a new day so you get one more lesson :)
He gets to be as big as silvers..about 24-30" in captivity. But he does grow a lot slower than silvers...
My old silver grw about 1" per month on his first year and grew about an inch every 6 months or so..
The black aro will propably get 5-6" in his first year and slower after that.
They are a lot calmer and timid than the silvers..
