I have had terrible luck with them in a community setting.

They seem to be pretty delicate.

I just got done reading a little thing about them....it indicated care level as difficult. Nice. Maybe I should have read that before getting them

Reading before you pick up a fish is always a good idea.

There are people who keep them with no problem. My personal experience has not been good.

Where did you get them?

I have a male...
I got him when was fully colored and he still has good color. He is by no means the dominant fish in my tank and he does fine.

He does hide a litte though...

As far as care...he recieves the same care as any other fish. I'm a little shocked that they say the care level of this fish is difficult.

I don't see it as long as there is plenty of hiding spots.

I have bad luck with them too- except these damn Bolivian's- they seem to be doing just fine.

i have had pretty good luck with them. pH 7.0 water temp 81 degrees and 50 % water change a week. They do hide alot which i hate. I even keep some in my 180 with my H. Cyanoguttatus and P. Loisellei and they do fine.

I bought mine from DNA. I also picked up some Panda Cory's and Schartzi Cory's.

The female Ram has nice coloring on her belly.

I have had some luck with them in the past, but haven't had them in a while. They are very beautiful fish and I hope they do well for you. What else is in the tank?

You know...after reading this again...
I thought you were talking about a German "Red" not a German "Ram"
my bad...
I've never kept these.

Where do you keep the little guy?

I almost asked if that was what you were thinking.

I am 99% sure a German Ram would not make it in any of your tanks...

Wrong PH and he would be a quick snack for most of your fish.

G Ram would prolly do ok in my 58...

as long as he stayed in the rocks...

my shellies would wear it out on the lower levels and the red empress' would shred it in upper stratus.

I don't alter the ph much anymore...
I'm going to try the "let it be" method for awhile.

so far, these guys have stayed out in the open. They say they gave me a male and female but I haven't been 100% convinced yet. Still trying to figure it out

Mine always stayed out in the open.

Female will have a purple stomach.... Male will have longer black tips on the dorsal fin.
