How many of you guys saw this episode of Monsterquest on History Channel about 2 days ago..
The show was about a group of environmental scientists searching the lakes and rivers in USA in search of piranhas after a confirmed report of someone having caught a black piranha on rod/line in some lake in Tennesse...
These scientists stress the importance of releasing non-native species into the eco-system resulting in large scale damages..
They also showed an experiment where they lower the water temperature as low as 50F with 4 piranhas in a glass tank...poor fishes got so sluggish they almost looked like they died.....this experiment was to show to what extent these animals can cope up with the new environement before they start adapting to it...:(
I have seen pictures of people catching Red Devils, Oscars, Giant Gouramis in Florida...but just imagine what kind of a irresponsible hobbyist could release Piranhas into the water system...:confuzeld:
The show ends with no conclusive evidence but the scientists believe that there are piranhas in lakes/rivers and its just a matter of time before someone somewhere catches one...
Hopefully none of you guys practice this method of dumping fishes into lakes/rivers...
