I work long strang hours and hardly home at the same time everyday and with that being said my fish dont get to eat on a reagular schedule. Ive been thinking about one of those automatic fish feeders that mounts on the back of the tank and could feed my tank during the morning hours of the day. I dont know nothing about them, Im thinking it would be a good choice so my fish can be on somewhat of a scheldule. What are the pros and cons of those devices? Is it worth my time and money?

they are ok for flake...
I use them when I'm out of town...but would't use them for everyday use.
I've gotten away from flake...and feed NLS...
The 2 that I have will not work with NLS or any other type of pellet.
I got one but have never tried to use it.

Im really thinking at this point its going to be a 50/50 call, I dont see where it would hurt to try one on a daily basis. And if it doesnt work out then I can allways take it off.

I only feed my big tank 3 days a week. Mature fish don't necessarily need daily feedings.

I agree with Austin, I am only feeding my fish 3-5 times a week and at all different times, and it has not ill effect on the fish. I think if you want to experiment fine, but there is not need to get that device.

I use Hydor brand ones for all my freshwater tanks. I use flake food. I have used them for pellet food when I had them on my saltwater tanks. They work well for me.

I bought one at Walmart for about $12 and it works fine while I'm on vacation. I just mix whatever I'm feeding at the time. It just dumps out the feed very slow instead of all at once. The reason I wouldn't auto feed all the time is that some of it ends up in the filter which I turn off during normal feeding.

I use one on my work tank, I put in a mix of cichlid attack pellets, floating pellets, and flake, and I break up algae wafers into tiny pieces and put them in there too. I really never do any work on that tank.

I'm starting to feed my fish every other day at random time.
Is there an automatic feeder that can do this?

The best one I have used is the Rondomatic 400 its made in Germany and has 28 seperate compartments for food. It allows you to mix up the feeding with different foods.

I've never gotten an automatic feeder to work properly.
