Well - my wife was complaining about the the 56 Gallon Column in the bedroom waking her up and so I had to move it today. Upon moving one of the two females SPIT! About 13 to 14 fry total. However, it's a pretty mixed tank with only two females so I'm not sure who the mommy and daddy is!!!

There are two females (that I am aware of for sure) in the tank. One Kenyi and a Tropheus Brichardi.

There are two male trophs in the tank. A Green Murago and a Brichardi. Hopefully if these are troph babies they are not cross with the Murago...

If they are from the Kenyi, the only other Mbuna is a Johanni. However, the other fish include a pink peacock, red empress, borleyi, german red and blue ahli. Any, I suppose MIGHT be a daddy.

The fry seem to have somewhat large eyes. The majority of them are pink in coloring right now with a few darker with vertical stripes...

What does everyone think (besides I need to rearrange quarters for a few of these fish...)

it will be impossible to tell until they are grown out to about an inch. its very likely the trophs could have crossed, its never a good idea to mix variants or even species of trophs. hard to tell on the kenyi, so lots of things could have happened...

Yeah - when I got the trophs I didn't think and I figured the likelihood of a 2 male a 1 female ratio of producing spawn was highly unlikely. To top it off, they were apparently housed together before I got them with out any spawing. Go fig...

Your description of the fry lead me to conclude they they are classified as feeders. :exactly:

My money is on 'pink peacock' x German Red. Aulonocara have large eyes and this cross would lead to some pink and some dark barred fish with large eyes. I know you only have two females-but I'm thinking your pink peacock may be a female? Looking at your photo album, your pink peacock does look like a possible female-the photos arent close up of it. As for the German Red-is it pictured in your album? I see a male Alonocara (or two) in the photos. Nothing you have looks like a German Red-they should look like this if its pure:

I have no idea what sex the pink peacock might be. It is the smallest fish in the tank, however that could be a good call as it has been maintaining to on small portion of the tank for several weeks - just hovering around like many mommies do.

Yeah - my German Red is definately pure. Looks just like that - guess he was a little camera shy.

I also have another fish that is simliar with feature and color to the German Red, but not quite the same.

Not sure what he is, but they are definately different fish. The Red Zeba and the Yellow lab mentioned in the album have been gone for a little while now so it doesn't seem likely they are parents.

Blue Granite - 35 cents a pound down at the local quarry distributor. Normally they just round down for me to since I'm not getting hundreds of pounds like most of their buyers.
