Oh....so maybe my male died. I know one of them would keep puffing bubbles at the top.
Thanks for the identifier!

I would lean more towards paradise gourami from shape. Thats what it looks like to me

I agree with lellison... I think it is a paradise.
I do not think it is a female Dwarf... they are much shorter and squattier and not near that much blue.

yeah, the males create "bubble nests" for the female to lay eggs. If there's one blowing bubbles at the top of the tank, it's male :D.

Hmmm BTW... what type of plant is that to the right?
supersmirky
12-10-2007, 10:39 AM
Yeah....I can't tell which one actually made the bubbles.... They both looked the same to me.
The plant to the right is actually a plastic floating plant. I use them for my guppy orgies

OIC, nice looking plant at any rate!

Yea I would say that it was the male you lost. The pic is a mature female paradise. Pretty fish!

Not sure why, but he (or she) died last night = (

That really sucks!
You want some blue 3 spots if I can save any of the fry?
supersmirky
12-20-2007, 08:47 PM
Sure. What do those look like??

BTW - took my water for testing....tested perfect...
I lost the above fish, a black neon, and my iridescent shark! Not sure what happened.

Oh, was that the one the was asking funny at the top of the tank the other night when I was over there?

Yes...that was him. He wasn't small either and I have had him for 2 years. He was pretty small when I got him.
The Gourami looks good. Let me know when the fry are big enough!! :baby2:

Not a problem... but might be a while (like several months - 1/2 a year). If you get something else in the mean time, no biggy.

LOL...yeah, they take a while. I'm busy trying to get plants in the tank now. I purchased 2 Odyssea lights from JFP. Only 96w each which still brings my tank under the 2 watt per gallon.
AndrewH
12-20-2007, 09:04 PM
Yeah, but 2 wpg doesn't really mean anything.
2 @ 96 watts is quiet a bit of light, plus you can add the light you have on it now to bump it up a bit. Personally I think the type of light is more important than the amount (to a point of couse... 1/10th wpg isn't gonna grow anything no matter what type it is).
You might also wanna hit up the "want plant clippings" post for some free starter plants so you're not out a lotta money at first (other than the equipment of course :D).
I'll save you some fry if I can ever catch them. How many you want? Males and females?

2 should be good unless they prefer to "school".
BTW - Good point you made above regarding lights. The fixture came with a 50/50 bulb which I read everywhere that its pointless on a freshwater planted. Should I replace the bulb with just daylight bulbs?

Na, no schooling with these guys (and when it's mating time, the male will keep eveyone else away, even the female). I'll get you a couple males or a couple of females and you can then trade one of 'em for the opposite sex if you're wanting to breed 'em (to keep from inbreeding them).
Yeah, see if you can trade 'em for some 6500 K (I think they're normally 6700 K for those fixtures) and you'll be set to grow! Normally if you finds someone keeping a reef tank they'll want to trade if they have 6700 K. Maybe look at www.DFWMAS.com (http://www.DFWMAS.com) for a trade, or JFP should let you swap 'em out. Otherwise you're looking at buying 'em then selling the 50/50s (which shouldn't be too hard).

Nice...yes, I talked with him a bit about different bulbs...he would need to order them. Worth a shot though. Thanks!

12-20-2007, 11:42 PM
oh...btw - will they be brighter with two daylight bulbs vs a 50/50?
AndrewH
12-20-2007, 11:48 PM
Well "brighter" is a relative term. Brighter to you or me, maybe a little if at all.
But brighter to the plants, very!!!

They will appear brighter.
Might be more a different color of light but it will look brighter.

What style bulb are you looking for? I know 6700k but what configuration?

It's straight pin.

How long are the bulbs?
supersmirky
12-21-2007, 09:22 AM
The fixture is 36" so I think the bulbs are 34"

How long is the tank?
Are they double bulbs?
AndrewH
12-21-2007, 11:22 AM
72", I think he said he got double 65w fixtures (one for each side of the tank). So 4 x 65w total.
supersmirky

Tank is 72" long. I got two 36" fixtures at 1x96 (compact fluorescent)
