Okay...finally got this cleaned out and rebuilt. The driftwood is held down by rocks at the moment until it can stay down by itself.
I took out all the pebble gravel and put down crushed quartz.
I can't get my hand around it now, but I want to do something different with the plants. Just not sure what

And for kicks...here is my bamboo shrimp

Got the bamboo shrimp at Petco. It's the first time I have seen them there.
The quartz took 1 bag green, 1 bag white, and then a couple of handfuls you gave me. You were right...the black goes a LONG way! :exactly:

Thanks! Took a lot of work with removing fish, etc. Very different after having the Colosseum and going to this! I will probably change my background to a tropical background
Thanks to Blake for letting me buy his driftwood and the idea on the quartz!

I guess that the wood did not sink like I had thought?
Looks good, I am glad the 2 bags were enough for you.

Yeah, you definitely hit the "more realistic" mark!!!
What are the plans as far a fish go, and maybe a few of us could make some plant suggestions (real or fake plants)?
I'm really diggin' those rock piles. They're a testimony to the difference between a 4' tank and a 6' tank (meaning the room to do some different piles as well as some driftwood).

No kidding....I went from a 55 to this one....and now I still think I need a bigger tank. You definitely fill the space you have when you go big!
As far as real or fake, I wish I could go real, however, my banded lepordanis I would think would eat them. Everything else i have in there is probably plant safe.
I have:
Bleeding Heart Tetra, Neon tetra, black penguin tetra, bala sharks, albino sharks, columbian shark, irridescent shark, blue lobster, tons of guppies, bristlenose pleco, a regular pleco, ottos, danios, bumblebee cat, red tail botia, some kind of loach...looks like a yoyo..but it isn't.
ANd thanks for the compliments....doing a whole tank redo is hard work!

I am so jealous too! I want a bigger tank but old George won't let me! I loved that driftwood and the crushed quartz. Maybe I should get me some before I get my donated fish for my 55. How many bags would it take me for a long 55?

If you're doing fake plants, I'd recommend sticking with only 1 or at most 2 types to give a natural feel, IMHO.

Ok...thanks guys!
I see some of the grass type plants at DNA that look really good...I thought about going that route

If you are talking about the big plants on the back wall (the ones not in a bag)Shop around for those...
Fish Gallery is about $5-$10 cheaper for the same plants... at $10+ per plant I would save a few $$$

Nope not yet....
The stand is 80% done...
working on the doors now....

12-10-2007, 01:45 PM
Do you do the doors yourself or go to a cabinet maker? If you do it yourself, do you run a router over the edges?
biggin
12-10-2007, 06:05 PM
Doing the doors my self.
Will probably not use a router... Not sure I will need one.

I took out the blue background and put up a black background. Now it doesn't look so washed out.
