View Full Version : A GREEN house guest!
Found one of these living in the spare bathroom about a month or so ago (must have brought it in with the plants I had outdoors). So this morning I got surprised by seeing this one out of the corner of my eye LOL :D I guess it's been living off of any bugs that came in with the plants.
Anyone know what it is & should I be putting it outside even though it is still cold? I put the other one out & saw it again hanging around the back door a few days later. Last summer I had a big one that looked just like this in the back yard sunning itself on the patio. It will change colors to brown.

It's an Anole. You see them for sale at pet stores all the time. When they are happy, they are nice and green like that one. If they are to cold or not feeling so hot then they turn a brown color.
Cool little guys to have around since they eat lots of bugs.
Thanks ... I'll put it outside later today when it is warmer as I don't want to start bringing in crickets to feed it. While trying to catch it one of my cats almost got it for a snack

Yeah, those are the local "camillians". They, males, have a frog like throat extrusion (http://www.blackwellpublishing.com/ridley/images/anole.jpg). I'm told it's for matting, but it's bright red with yellow. Stands out on a tree branch from across the yard ;).
These little guys are harmless. I personally welcome them into my home. Would rather have a lizard than flys/bugs, but like you said Ms Kitty would love to have lizard for lunch.

Cute fellow! We find geckos all the time in the warm months. Definitely let him outside this afternoon or he will starve in your house.
I put him & the container that I used to hold him outside for 3 hours. The lizard didn't leave! So I went to the pet store this afternoon & got him a baggie of 15 small crickets. 2 of them got eaten immediately! Will try to release him again on a warmer day. It is obvious the poor thing hasn't had enough to munch on while loose in the house. I'm surprised my cats didn't tear the plants apart trying to get it.

Your are good people. Most people would just put it outside without thinking about it and I bet there a couple people out there that would have considered it protein for the kitties.
