I like pool filter sand mixed with tahitian moon sand. I like the salt and pepper look. Pool filtersand can be bought at any pool supply store and they are very easy to clean and rinse.

Sounds nice...easy to clean is major. Is that what you have in your tank? Do you have pics?

This is pavestone pool filter sand from home depot:

I would suggest staying away from play sand as its a little hard to clean, although have used it and have issue with it.

If you want a color assortment, as Biggin said, 3m colorquarts is unbeatable.

I used 3 bags in my 58 (36x18) footprint. I could use another bag but I just haven't bothered with it.

I think its like $7-8 per bag.

I used grade 3 blasting sand. $8-9 for 100#'s..:)

That is smaller than the pool filter sand and whiter.

Grade 4 is about the same price but looks more like the PFS

good info...I didn't realize the sandblasting was finer...I actually thought it was more like small pebbles.

Do you have any pic Skipp?

The grade 3 is like sugar sand.

I was actually gonna work up a sand size comparison thread this weekend in my spare time, seems alot of people ask this so I figured I would tackle that. I have grade 4 here, and grade 3 in my african tank. Also have t grade color quartz and regular sized aquarium gravel. I'll link to it once I get done.

Can't work on it tonight I gots drinkin' to do...:):happydrunks:

Depends on what size sand you want, fine or super fine.

I got mine at a building material supplier.
