Airless 2 gallon tank

my daughter wants to put fish in a small tank in her classroom. she doesn't have a power outlet so no heater and no air. what fish do you suggest? beta or feeder goldfish?

I vote some hearty floating plants (if it's near a window, they'll get enough sun) and a white cloud mountain minnow or two. Bettas like warm water.

Gold fish would be a BAD idea.

I assume no filter as well? If so I'd highly recommend lots of plants (which might not be practical).

Maybe substitute a heat lamp for heat and light (simply using an incandescent light bulb might work)?

Betta or gouramis (dwarf for a smaller tank) would be my suggestions since almost everything else will need some sort of aeration to breath.

Killi fish might also be a good choice. Typically you have 1 or 2 year Killi fish (as in how long they live), so there would be no pet to take care of over the summer...

Kinna a sad situation if the 1 or 2 year doesn't make it through the school year, but that could happen with any classroom pet (and often does, but I think it's very valuable for students to have a class pet. For some kiddos, that's the only pet they'll ever have).

I believe killi fish would require aeration, but a battery powered (http://customlivewells.com/images/Rapala%20battery_powered_aerator.jpg) one might work (run it after class hours/at night since they're kinna loud).

oh...my daughter is a teacher at a day care - the Kids R Kids in N Irving - she has the 12 to 19 month olds - these: :brandy: LOL
