I do buckets for the 10g tanks and those that are just out of python reach, but anything bigger and Python is the way to go!! I actually bought a $39.00 1" ID python yesterday to do Peanut's tank. I couldn't live without my python. :D

Home Depot- clear tube. Not the braided reinforced stuff- they didn't have 20' sections of it.

Oh so you went ahead and made your own...gotcha.

Are you using the normal python venturi? I guess at only 20' it might work ok, but I can't imagine anything longer would work.

i also have the 25 ft one , but need to make it longer ,, will it still work with 25 more feet ?

Yes it will work fine. There is a 50ft option as well, or you could modify yours to make it longer.

Yup they still work, I think I have the 50ft also.

Actually, I built a 50ft version for EAST_TX_RN and when I tested it, 50' seemed like the outter most limits (as in, I wouldn't recommend going beyond 50' if you can help it).

I would suggest going as short as you possibly can, say 45' if that'll work, or 40', etc.

unless of course, if you go further you can get more down slope- so it will pull more. Right?

Or better water pressure to create more vacuum.

Edit: How about a Powerhead in place of the venturi?:confuzeld::wha::hehe:

Depends on how high your sink is since it still has to pull it back up.

I personally wouldn't use a powerhead since I suck up sand through mine.

I use a Gilmour reinforced industrial hot water hose 5/8 x 50ft to drain my tanks and I picked up a shower head adapter to do my refills, the hose was around 40 dollars, but it drains the tank really fast and the hose does not kink. The shower head pushes water through alot faster than a regular hose which allows for quick refills, I can do 40 gallons in a couple of minutes.

You talking about the showerhead adaptor that allows you to use a handheld wand?
Never thought of that. Did you have to adapt the threads on that?

the adapter that you would plug the handheld into. got it at ACE hardware, I cut one end of the hose and slide it over the outlet and then secure it with a adjustable hose clamp to keep it on tight.

I could not get enough suction with the 50 ft. that Andrew made me, but part of that may be due to low water pressure out here in the sticks. I eventually went with cutting it down to 25-30 ft. and having to run it from my hall bathroom. It will not reach my 50 in the game-room, so I do have to use a bucket there. I use a garden hose to drain because the water is good for my shrubs, etc.

Take it apart and make sure you do not have any blocks....

I can not get it to work on my kitchen sink, it seems that I have plenty of pressure but it just does not work.

Or you could just take her out to dinner and get some flowers...

Could also be an o-ring leak or bad seal somewhere in the process.

I hooked up my 25' python and it has a strong suction!!! I have to watch pretty close as it started sucking the gravel all the way through to the drain point.

Oh and I found a really nice venturi for it the other day at Petsmart. I think it was $10  but my old one was about to break and this one has a built in ball valve to control drain/fill function.

they make pythons up to 100 ft long so you must have a leak in the connection allowing air into the line causing the problem
