Does anyone have one of these? When I bought mine, he was about 2" and 4 months later, he is already 7" I am not really sure how big they get. If you have one, what does yours eat? Mine loves to eat algae tabs which is very odd for a big fish. Oh...and every once in a while he will eat bloodworms.

I think they are 10"-12" and are supposed to get pretty mean as they get older.
Cool fish though.

Yeah I have one in with my African Cichlids. Those stupid algae wafers is all it eats! lol And biggin's right, 10"-12", and they're supposedly fairly aggressive, but mine just swims around all day and seems to mind his own business. Of course, that could be because it's in with Africans. :)

What size tank is that?
Definitely an interesting fish. Seems they're from South America and like moving water (streams). Also seems they're herbivores.

Well upon further investigations (thanks for the links Joey), there are two that look very similar, the Banned Leporinus and the Black Banned Leporinus (I'm guessing two different fish).
One is an Omnivore while the other is a Herbivore. Both like moving water and are aggresive. And can grow from 10"-12".
How can you tell them apart?

Isn't there a difference by how many bands they have when they are adults?? Very interesting to have those two fish and have one as a omni and the other a herbivore
And the tank I have is a 150 gallon

i have two hermit crabs who love the algea tabs too, only i have to feed them a special brand that doesn't have a certain preservative in it
but my monster pleco Mr.Peaco eats the algea tabs like candy

Yeah, I haven't seen him in a while either. Mine hasn't seemed to grow much here lately but I guess it takes a long time before they get as big as that one

I sold him some time ago...He wasn't compatable with a planted tank. He was really cool though, I liked him. He would eat bloodworms and beefheart

takes a little while for them to grow big I had a one can't remember if it was a black banded or just a banded when I had my 240(the one chris bought, traded him in). is the bloodworms frozen? make sure you only feed him/her/it blood works 2-3 a week, or it could get blowed and that would be bad.

Rey, I'm beginning to think all these fish you "say" you have are a figment of your imagination since there's never been pictures posted.... http://pushupstairs.com/images/emoticon/neptune/Animated/Thinking/think017.gif
