Not really sure how to describe this, but here goes. I've got a San Antonio Molly (yep, the one you gave me, Blake) that seems to be having problems having babies. I noticed a couple of good sized babies this afternoon and looked to see who was having them. It appears she is but that she's having problems getting them to pass through. She has a bulge in that general area and it seems to have increased in size throughout the afternoon. She's also shimmying... Not sure if it's what they normally do with birthing or if she's in pain, or both. She ate this morning and seems fine otherwise. None of the other fish are bothering her and I'm going to try to find something to isolate her in. Is there anything else I should do? :confuzeld:

Kinda sounds like the normal birthing process...

I do not think so....

You can get a birthing net at Walmart or a pet store for less then $5. We have one but you have to be careful where you put it. Fish like to get stuck behind it and die....

I put it on the crossbar of the aquarium so there is no where for them to get stuck.

I wanted to get one of those plastic birthing tanks that float in the aquarium, but can't find them. I'd think the babies would get stuck in the net.

We have used the net and it worked fine.

Seems everything worked out... She had her babies and the lyretail mollie had her's too. She was about to BURST! I got 12 babies in the isolation tank and there's more to get. Those little things are F A S T!!! Guess I was panicky over nothing. :)

I'm glad it all worked out as well.

Didn't think of Petsmart for the iso tank. I'm more of the "let nature take it's course and the strong will survive" where hubby (who was reluctant for me to get the tank in the first place) wants to save all the babies by isolating them. (Makes a good case for another tank though!!!) I have a 60gallon cube that he wants me to set up as a grow out tank. Not a bad idea, but I'm thinking I may want a rectangular tank versus the cube, so I'm toying with that idea.

I like longer for grow out.... easier to clean I have a 20h and it is a pain to clean and try to make sure I do not suck up any little guys

Good point. I have a 10 that I could set up. I just put another 18 in the iso tank so I'm not sure 10 gal would be big enough the way these gals are spittin' them out!

10g will do for a while.... and by the time they are over crowding the 10g you can probably move them to the big tank.

Thanks Brandy! I'm still picking a few out of the tank now and then to alleviate the boredom and let the timer count down on online defensive driving school http://www.pushupstairs.com/images/emoticon/extra3/bee.gif

Blake, don't you mean a 100g "grow out" tank??? (C'mon... Help me out here!) http://www.pushupstairs.com/images/emoticon/extra3/devil.gif

Um... the 100g wouldn't necessarily be for the fry.... I'm sufferring from MLTS, a disorder Hubby has yet to understand. http://www.pushupstairs.com/images/emoticon/extra3/doc.gif
