well, i currently have 12 day old betta fry right now, i just fed them and they seem to be doing great!..stomachs always full of MICROWORMS AND BABY BRINE SHRIMP. although i want to try daphnia, i dont know where to get them locally. if anyone reading this has daphnia they can sell me, i'd greatly appreciate it. just so i can start a culture and all. but to answer your questions bhuges, i think a great start would be microworms and baby brine shrimp. the first day, after their 3 days of consuming their own yolks, feed them infusorians. you have to culture them yourself. then after 2 days or so, try introducing microworms..if you see them chomping down, then i dont think you need to feed infusorians anymore..just keep feeding them the worms and after a week of that...feed them BBS and rotate your feedings with the worms still. I do that so i dont overfeed the fries wwith BBS which can cause swim bladder disorder. it seems to be working fine so far for me man. good luck to you hopefully you can get a start with this!!..BTW...I NEED DAPHNIA..CAN ANYONE HELP?

The only people I know that have Daphnia, is the couple that hosted our last Betta Meeting. He lives in Allen. You could always request some to be brought to the meeting if you are going to come to the next Betta meet. Not sure where we are having it yet, but will post it when we know.

On aquabid there is a discus breeder named Dallas Discus that sales daphnia. He is a nice guy and lives on the Garland/Richardson line.

I try and avoid Microworms for my Betta fry...it teaches them to eat off the floor ;P

I prefer Vinegar Eels for the very first foods and then BBS.

i've noticed that about my fries, they are 3 weeks now and they are mostly on the floor. thats because of course im feeding them microworms and BBS. sometimese in the middle of the night, i do see all of them on the suface skimming around for food i guess...but thats all the foods i have for them at the moment until they get bigger.

when they get big enough, you need to get them Atison's betta starter food. It works wonder, most of the top breeders buy it, and Atison himself came up with the recipe. He may not be known here, but he is one of Asian's best known breeders. He still breeds bettas as well. If you go to the International betta congress website, they sell it for really really cheap there. PetLand in arlington has it as well, but not as cheap.

right now they are almost 4 weeks and they are getting big fast. i just moved them from my 10 gallon to my 30 gallon today. im expecting growth to shoot to the skies from here on out. i think i should go get some of that atison betta pro stuff. ive heard about it, but always just thought people were advertising his stuff...i know he has great fighter bettas and he is very well known on other forums. i'll give it a try. right now they are big enough to eat HIKARI first bites but when then eat it, i just see them spit it back out...lol...but as soon as i put microworms in, they tear them up!...hopefully in a few weeks i can start training them to eat nonlive foods..thanks for the advice though:D

There is hardly any of the larger bodies of water in our area that isn't loaded with daphnia, especially the trinity. The only thing you have to be concerned about is what you collect with them. I separate mine very carefully and then culture. They breed almost as fast as microworms, you just have to use the richest available culture food you dare use. To get the best results.

Sorry, haven't been on here in a while...switched computers and lost the link...

To answer your question...nope...I use a white brine shrimp net...dip into my 1g pickle jar that they are in (just skim the "white yuck" off the top...let drip until I have to shake off the last drop...DO NOT TURN THE NET OVER...put bottom of the net into a small bowl of clean water and allow the VE still in the net to filter into the clean water. Feed the clean VE to fry with a dropper.
