Gavin, my veiltail lutino tiger oscar, and Raisin, my veiltail tiger oscar, turned one year old in October. I thought I'd post updated pictures of them (and a reminder baby picture of them) to illustrate how fast oscars can grow in a year's time. They're not particularly large oscars either (the veiltails tend not to grow as large as regular oscars for some reason), which is FINE with me. They share a 100-gallon custom GC's tank, which I'm hoping they won't outgrow (they're the only fish in the tank) and they continue to be compatible. However, my husband is so attached to both fish (and of course I am, too!) that if they outgrew the tank or needed to be separated, then we'd be looking to get another large, oscar-only tank. :)

Thanks, ya'll. They really are big water-puppies. They line up at the end of the tank that faces the TV and appear to watch the action on TV. It's pretty funny to see them do that.

Nancy, Raisin is that baby Techcyn got when she was fish shopping with you. Do you remember when she was a little baby? Hard to believe they grow so fast. I hope they're a pair too. Baby VTs would be so adorable! But that opens up a Pandora's box of "What to do with a couple hundred babies every few months. . . "

They look great, and the growth between the first time I came over and this last time is huge.
I found a vid of my oscars that I showed you when I first came over. Man did they ever grow since then. When I bought them in May they were about 1 inch in length. Now they are reaching for 8 inches.
When I first saw yours I thought man those things are big! Now they look twice that size. The tails sure add length! They are beefy to. Nice and healthy.

Thanks, Dave. They've really been fun fish to watch grow. Ocars really have great personalities. Easy to see why most people refer to them as water puppies. :)

The lutino came from The Fish Place. The tiger was a gift from a friend who purchased from one of the LFS in Dallas. You can usually just ask one of the LFS to order them in for you. They don't like to keep too many of them because the other regular oscars really beat them up pretty bad and that long tail and fins make it difficult for them to compete for food. Good luck.

The VT's are awesome looking. I've only been able to see just one in person.

BTW, what kind of background do you have on your tank?

Thanks, Mr. Sadler. They do grown fast in a year's time, huh?

Boone, the background is fabric in a wavy blue water pattern that I hot-glued to the back. Looks like you live close by, so any time you want to see them in person, just PM me and you're welcome to stop by and see them.

Haiven, Gavin and Raisin thank their "Auntie" for the kind comments. :)

Well, I was going to start a new thread that they were 18 months old, but I think I'll just keep this one going until they turn two. I don't have a good camera and they move so much when I approach the tank (big gluttons!) but I can see where they've grown a LOT just in the last six months (and I thought they were close to full grown at a year). Anyway, updated pictures of the two Veiltail oscars. Still doing fine together. I do believe they are two females though based on very low (if any) levels of aggression toward one another. Two females is FINE with me.
