Since I was so hit or miss on the "other" forum, I thought I would shake the dust of the skeletons in the closet. I was born a poor black child...OH wait, thats a movie. I got started with cichlids about twenty years ago, and have never looked back. I have a soft spot in my heart for the big bruiser tank buster types...the more teeth they have, the better I like em. I have had many different types of cichlids down through the years. Right now I am going through a flirtation with Central Americans again. As for tanks and current stock...HHHHMMMMMMM, where to begin.
125 gallon long...
There are seven 3.5 to 4 inch Vieja Synspilum growing out and pairing up. A 10 inch Synodontis eupterus and two BN plecos.
75 gallon long...
A breeding pair of Hypsophrys nicaraguensis who have spawned once so far. And 6 Geophagus sp. "Tapajos Orange Head" and two BN plecos.
55 gallon long #1...
A pair of Sciaenochromis fryeri (Maleri Is.) and a trio of Alunocara sp. "Strawberry". And the usual pair of BN plecos with another Synodontis eupterus.
55 gallon long #2...
Three albino Protomelas sp. "Steveni Taiwan" and eight albino Aulonocara stuartgranti (Ngara flametail)
55 gallon breeder...
16 one inch long Hypsophrys nicaraguensis growing out.
Thats it for right now, but there is always room and new fish to experience.

I think you guys mistook what I wrote...or maybe I wrote it wrong. I was just saying that I have 2 or 3 BN plecos in every tank, not albino ones...not long finned ones...just plain old, normal colored, algea sucking bristlenosed plecos.

Sorry dear heart, I am fresh out of peacock fry. I just got rid of the last four strawberry juvies. And the flametails are still young...most are in the 1.5 inch range. But you will be the first to know when they start "dancing" again.

Well no, but ya never know about all these things you hear about one the net. Could have been one of them there hoaxes or something.
The real reason is I have been swamped at work. I case y'all dont know, I am a deputy sheriff for Denton County. I am also THE animal control officer for the county. So with 956 square miles to cover...I dont get as much time to spend on the forums as I would like. And it hasnt helped that I have been embroiled in a couple of very bad animal cruelty cases over the past month or so...and no, before y'all ask I cant tell. At least not yet, both cases are still being investigated. But its an interesting job to say the least. I have some great stories to tell. On another forum where I am a admin, we have a section titled "Story time with Uncle Mongo". If the powers that be and you, the other members are interested...I would be pleased to tell what stories I can. Some are sad...some will piss you off...some will make you laugh so hard you'll shoot ice cubes out your nose. And I can honestly tell y'all, my job os nothing like "Animal Cops" if you watch that. All the interesting things that have happened to me might fill 20 minutes of one episode, much less a whole season of hour longs shows.
Any way, thanx for the warm welcome! I am looking forward to getting to know you guys better and spending time talking fish.

Heck yeah tell those stories. I have some family and friends that are cops (not that I think if it, there's a lot of them in my life) and love to here their stories (some make me gag, but interesting all the same).

Mongo, this is a late post but welcome! I was married to a Dallas Co. DS many moons ago, so I kind of know what you go through. I think the worst part would be the animal control officer part. Luckily, I am a registered nurse and don't do what you do, because I would probably shoot a few people with my Glock 26 that abused animals. Violent, aren't I?

Aww, come on Biggin, I won't hurt you much! For real, it sickens me each time I hear things like a little 6 y/o girl that is brutally raped and then hung, or a bunch of horses starved to death,etc.,etc. It seems to be happening more and more. Jail is not good enough for some of them, IMHO.

Not disagreeing with you.... Just saying.... My wife is a nurse.... she only deals with women having little ones.... I do not know how you do it.... I guess I am too much of a baby....

HERE! HERE!
There is no jail time in most animal cruelty/abuse cases. Pisses me right the hell off!

Around the time of the Mick Vick thing I heard someone say there should be jail during the night and he should be required to work in a animal shelter during the day.... I kinda like that idea.... let them see what they are doing.... of course part of me says they will not care....

Well as a veteran of many animal abuse cases, our justice system is only now begining to take them seriously. We file the cases and most times they end up with probation. Rarely do they recieve jail time, much less prison time. We can only make sure and do our part. I can promise we work these cases just like one would if the crime had been against a human. My sergeant is one of the biggest animal lovers I know, and takes a lot of these cases personaly. We dont get a lot of cases, but the ones we do get we work all the way from the initial outcry all the way to filing the case with the DA. Once they get the case, we are at their mercy as to a decision. I have handled some pretty gruesome cases over the last two years, and no I cant talk about them. Its that whole privacy thing that the media gets to ignore. But like the old saying...Its a dirty job, but someone has to do it. I rather enjoy going after these people. :hehe:

Mongo, my deepest respect for what you have to deal with. You must have a strong spirit, to be able to handle those cases. I can handle the gore, but I cannot handle the neglect/abuse of the innocent. I am so glad we have kind people like you and your sargeant working in these fields. Thanks!
