Hello everyone, I've had 4 clown loaches in my 58G planted w mainly rainbows. They've been there maybe over a year and have grown well... a couple of them are 5"+ and two others around 4"+. Tonight prior to feeding, as they were dancing for me, I noticed one's belly different; bigger, seems streched, and I'm concerned of bloat or if she could be holding?! I fed them and she ate well, moved normal, etc. So I took the attached pics, hopefully you all can notice the belly and GIVE ME SOME INPUT PLEASE!!! I haven't looked into breeding clown loaches, don't know anything about them breeding, etc. If anyone has had any experience on this, your input would be greatly appreciated. If holding, should I isolate her? Thanks.

From what I know they have never breed in captivity before

I'd heard the only captive breeding has been in Asia with hormones and such. Clowns do get big and fat though!

its a condition that most loaches have... their stomach will swell up due to overfeeding. very common only downside is that their lifespan is shorten. i have a yoyo that looks like that and its been doing fine for over a year now.

well if they are breeding... please let us know. that would be remarkable, since i have always been told that they don't breed in captivity.

The subject of captive Clown loach breeding is interesting and controversial--check out these Practical Fishkeeping articles:

Thanks for the articles, after reading them I doubt mine is holding... he/she likes to eat! It's stomach still looks streched out, the others don't and they are pretty chubby. It's the thinest and smallest of the bunch. I sure hope it's not bloat. I'm keeping my eye on it...

i had a couple of yoyo loachs which were fat in my mbuna tank so i decided to move them with my trophs and the problem was solved. lol. a month later they were back to normal.
