View Full Version : 3D Background Installation

Has anybody here ever installed one of these backgrounds? I'm going to have to cut it down to fit and I'm not sure how to get it in the tank without taking out the center brace.
I'm also not sure about what to do for filtration. I'm currently using 2 Aquaclear 110's but those won't work unless I move the background out enough for them to draw from behind the background. Which means I'll have to drill some holes and insert some screens. Or figure out some way to extend the "U" intake tube?
This thing came with absolutely no instructions so any help or advice would be appreciated.

Looks like a DAS?
It would be a shame if you had to cut the halfs in half but it maybe needed.
OR if you don't want to cut it you could just sell it to me....:D

Don't let these yahoos make you sell that background! Without laying hands on it... I would suggest cutting around one of the rocks at a corner. This might just allow you enough "wiggle" room to get the pieces in. Then silicone the cut piece back into place... shouldn't be noticable at all.
Am I making ANY sense???

I got the background from Pet-O-Rama and DAS was the distributer, but I don't think that it's their "DAS" backgrounds that come installed in their tanks. I think this is an off-brand. There was absolutely no paperwork, no name on the box that I recall...no nuttin. I can call POR tomorrow and ask them what it was.
I have found one drawback to it already. The pieces were propped up against my fireplace for a while and my cats decided that they looked like something to climb on. They ended up falling over and there's a pretty good sized piece that chipped off. It appears to be quite brittle and damages fairly easily. The damaged area didn't go all of the way through, but it did crack all of the way through to the black backing. I hope it does better once it's wet!
Joel, I happen to have one XP3 that I bought for a planted tank then changed my mind about setting it up. I'll open that one up and see how it fits.
I did happen to find this instuctional site (http://www.backtonature.se/english/montera_amazonas.html)

<Homer voice on> Hmmm smoked cat... <Homer voice off>
I think the idea is to mount the background out away from the back so that your equipment can hide behind it. Like you said, just have mesh covered holes to allow water through and keep the fishes out.

I think you are right. I just hope that I don't end up with a bunch of nasty stuff back there.
Awww...how could you smoke a sweet innocent cat like this?

Well...maybe not so innocent. He started out just trying to play with the toys in her cage...then he decided that she looked like more fun than the toys.

I would say, just make sure you leave enough room so that you can get a gravel vac back there, or something else to clean up any junk and you should be good to go.
