They are small as well. Less then 1.5 in.
So far I have had a lot of luck with them. Seem to do well with everyone.

Very nice! I would have never thought that to be a Gourami. They have very nice coloring. I might have to pick up some of those if I ever find some

OK folks...who's the "expert" here on these little buggers?
I have several here in my tank at work...is there a "visual" way to sex them? Has anyone here bred them?

I believe there are 2 ways.
1. Size
2. Fins
When I had about 6 of them there were differences particularly in the size.

Hmmm...males bigger?..or smaller?
I read somewhere that you could only tell by looking through them with a bright light...but I wouldn't know what to look for even if I could get them to hold still long enough in front of a bright light...
Another source said there were rumors of being able to tell by the stripes...that one has two full rows, the other only has one full row - the other is broken up/splotchy.
I try and watch them, but their tank has too many plants for me to see them much, that and they are major ascairedy-cats and hide when I get close to look.
I guess I could try and get a big one, and a little out by themselves and see if nature takes over...???

feed them well for 4-5 days on life food matter, let 'em bulk up--if sexually mature, the females will show the white "spot" (mini-ovipositor?) just like a female betta will when she's nearly ready to breed.
I witnessed them spawn long ago at an aquarium club-member's home, at the time I didn't know either--I asked, that was the answer I received. His laid 40-45ish eggs, fry were small--but not nearly as small as betta hatchlings. 26 raised to half inch. Warm temps and water quality were key early on. We watched them spawn under a black-light (spangled scales were cool), his wouldn't spawn in direct light.

Typically they are pretty cheap, $4-$6, Rift to Reef has also got them in as well.
