I was cycling my new tank with giant danios and a few other fish including a med sized red tailed shark. I just added several juvenile african cichlids, which are the main fish of the tank. After removing the danios (I had to dismantle the whole tank to net these fish!!!:special:)

Anyway, I guess the danios kept the red tail in check since they were bigger??? Now he chases small cichlidsall over the tank. He doesn't single anyone out and they always seem to be able to shake him, in which case he'll continue on with someone new.

Is this going to cause a long term problem or is he just trying to establish dominance?

nope- he's a life long harasser- dump him.

What's your PH in this tank.

I know it's between 7.5 and 8. I didn't realize till after that my test kit only goes up to 7.6 but when I took it in to the store they told me it was closer to 8

it'll eventually stress them to death- you really should re-home the shark, unfortunately.

My son had one in his tank and we finally had to re-home him to our puffer tank. The tank that's officially labeled the "so you think you're bad" tank. :hehe:

He chases our rainbows but they can easily outrun him and are equally bad about harassing. Those Giant Danio's aren't a problem b/c they're also fast.

Well as quickly as he started he has stopped. They are actually digging in the sand together and acting like they did with the danios in the tank. I'll continue to monitor, but looks fine for now. Thanks for the replys

Puffer tank doesn't sound like the best environment either. What kind of puffer?

yea, a catfish- I thought it would be no contest- but he managed to stick Peanut with a fin right between the eyes. Peanut was most unhappy for a few days. The catfish was never seen again. :hehe:
