if i put a repti sun 5.0 lightbulb in my aquarium for my softshell turtle? Would it hurt the fish or anything else

Don't those get pretty hot? I'd be concerned about temps.

thats what i was wondering its only a t8 but i wasnt sure how hot it would get would do you think

Get a clamp lamp for the bulb. Put it right above his basking spot. Turtle gets his light requirements and fish don't fry.

There would be no problem at all. Done it for years, and my Fl. Soft shell, and all the other turtles in all the other tanks with all the other fish, are just fine.

It will work just fine. When I used to keep turtles, that is what I ran over their basking spots (and cheap Home Depot 6500K tubes of the other end). They don't get any hotter than any other florescent tubes. They do need to be pretty close to the basking spot, since the UV radiation doesn't go very far. Once it hits the water, it will be pretty well gone anyway, so the fish have nothing to worry about.
