Okay, most of you know about the 4 fish i got from petsmart and ad fin rot and ick. Well now 7 fish have died from it including my black dalmatian molly (my favorite) and now my American flag looking female guppy had ick! So that means all the fish in my tank have ick (thats 10 adult/juvie fish and about 65 fry) So now i have to try to treat the tank OR git rid of the fish. replace the water and start all over.

Raise the temp to 85 degrees and add non-iodized salt. Can't remember the ratio of salt but I'm sure someone will chime in. Ich is very treatable but you have to treat for the entire life cycle, not just when the white spots disappear. That's a common mistake.

Don't give up on them. Try, try, try.

the life cycle of ich is like 10 days...or something.

just because you do not seem the white spots on the fish after 3-4 of treatment, you need to continue treatment for the full time to make sure you kill it all.

What do you mean? also thanks everyone!

Yeah, whenever one fish gets ich they all get it. You'll need to treat for 16 days - two days longer than the ich life cycle - to make sure all the ich are dead. Keeping the temp high helps a ton because it speeds up their life cycle and get's them gone faster. You might lose a few fish but most of them should pull through.

Personally i do not put chemicals in my tank unless absolutely 100% necessary. To me it is better to stick with a natural fix. Personally i would do as everyone has said heat/salt. It is your call though.

What fish do you have? depending what your stock list is, the meds may kill some of the fish you're keeping - just forewarning. Good luck with the situation.

Did they not replace your fish? Also I don't add chemicals either... Everyone here has told you you to turn up the heat and add salt!! But you seem like your not wanting to take that advice.

Where you buying heaters for $10?!?!?!

If the Melifix is working, continue. Do what you can with what you have to work with.

Keep us posted. :)

If your WalMart has 200watt and above heaters for $10, I'll make the trip to Sherman and buy 'em all!

Heh, yes, you can get heaters at Wally World for $10 - I have several :)

The catch to that is they are pre-programmed to like 78 degrees...and are not adjustable ... well, the ones I have aren't  (heheh) the Walmarts in BahaOklahoma might have diferent ones :brandy:

kSpieler added 5 Minutes and 36 Seconds later...

The chemicals available at the petstores will work, if used exactly as directed, and most of them are designed and packaged for people that may or may not have much experience.
It can be really scary to try and go the "natural" route ... even if everyone tells you it's ok ... since you can't see any immediate results.

And no one ever said exactly how much salt...?
kSpieler added 12 Minutes and 35 Seconds later...

Kacie - keep your head up! and good luck!

Remember, it's a learning experience ... we all had to start somewhere  :exactly:
