Here's my male Three Spot Gourami. I'll see if I can get a picture of the female too (and maybe a better one of him).

Here's a different one I had. In the reflection you can see the orange spot on her head (my oldest daughter appropriately named her Spot).

Here are some more pictures of my male blue three spot. Still can't get a good one of the female. I'll keep trying.

I had one of those when I was a little girl....he was with about 20 goldfish....and when my parents emptied all the water to clean the gravel by hand! I had one a couple yrs ago....and he KILLED EVERYTHING!!! Mean little guy!
AndrewH
11-12-2007, 09:39 PM
Yeah, my two started out as some of the little guys in the tank (and the kissing gouramis, pleco and pictus are all still bigger than them), so they pretty much keep to themselves.

AndrewH

Yeah, those last two were with the tripod and all the house lights out (and flash off, etc., etc.).
I'm starting to get the hang of it, but it takes 100+ shots to get 1-2 good ones (at least with that slow camera).

I'm not saying a new camera will instantly make me a better photographer, just that when I see a photo opportunity (the particular fish sitting still for a moment), taking instant pictures instead of a delay might net me more good shots :D (or at least I'm hoping it will).

Back on the Gouramis LOL There's a guy over on FGeeks that said these are a common food fish in the Philippines or Thailand, I can't remember which one he lives in. He said they just scoop them out of the puddles & cook them up whole. Kind of like the CPD everyone in the US is clamoring over their discovery, when all the locals just munched on them like dried fish sticks LOL
Andrew it's pretty bad when you hijack your own threads. :hehe:

Yeah, all gouramis are food in that part of the world (most of the fish profiles state that fact). Makes me think of Gary's sig line

Update...
Chris gave me some Amazon Frogbit (http://www.plantgeek.net/plantguide_viewer.php?id=264) and as soon as I put it into the tank, the male 3 spot started making a bubble nest (bubbles everywhere :D). Since it was the first time he ever made a nest I didn't think anything about it. Last Sunday when the water level dropped during last weeks water change most of the bubbles popped exposing 50-100 eggs (as best I could tell/count). Well tonight there are at least 20-30 free swiming fry.
I don't know if I can catch them to put them into a fry tank yet, but I'll probably try to at least get a few of them of this weekend.

Way to go.

Oh and the male has changed colors... in the above pics he looks quiet pale blue. Now he's more of a royal blue. Very intersting.

Update...
Well it seems 3 1/2 months later they've spawned again and as of last night I had free swimming fry (appears to be more than the first time).
My next step is to get a fry food culture going and maybe save some this go round, or be prepared for next time :hehe:

This is the best I could get so far... I'll try taking some from the side of the tank, but these guys are tinnnny.
Seems there's at least 1,000 to 1,500 of them.

All the little dots beside the bubbles are fry eyes (there bodies are still translucent).

LOL... I'm hoping they'll last in the 90 long enough for me to get a fry grow out tank setup :D.
I guess we'll see, but these guys are already doing much better then the last batch.

Even with Amon's suggestions this is the best shot I could get... They're still way too small to show up on camera.
I did setup a 10 gallon in the stand last night and caught as many babies as I could. Seems there's maybe 1000 in the 10 gallon and 1000 in the main tank now (hard to count these little guys).
The ones in the main tank are starting to venture out, so dad is loosing his mind trying to keep all of the other fish away from the surface where the babies are. I guess I'll see if I can't catch the babies in huddled groups to fish them out so I can put them in the 10 gallon as well.
I guess we'll see. I'm not sure if any of them will survive, but I think they have a better chance now.

Well I'm not sure if this weekend was spawn #2 or a continuation of #1 after the fry hatched but there are tons of new eggs in the tank... sheesh!!!
Let's see, that's spawn 04-05-08 to 04-06-08, hatch 04-07-08... spawn again 04-17-08 to 04-20-08... holy cow I'm gonna run outta floor space before summer gets here!!!
Seems it's time to setup a "tub" in the backyard for these rabbits!
Dad definitely changed colors this time... his entire body looked as dark as his two spots on his sides (couldn't see the spots because the rest of his body was so dark).
