They were F1 from Pete Durkin. Bought a bunch and grew the up after I saw the amazing photo of the 'Blue Rainbow' in the original yellow Tanganyika cichlids book by Konings. Grew em up (by themselves) and they never had the blue that I hoped for. The pineapples (Mpulungu, etc) and the Red Rainbows (Kasakalawe, etc) always looked gorgeous-so I got rid of the Chaitika and went with those. If you ever see that book-there is an amazing photo of the 'Chipimbi' moori as well. Same deal as the Chaitika. A bit of red in the caudal peduncle but nothing to write home about. Hope yours look better than mine!

Sorry been out of town. I hope they end up looking good, and being wild caught im giving myself the best chance possible. I hired Bec N Call to feed my animals, and came home to a mountain of uneaten food on the floor of my Tropheus tank. I asked them to feed a small pinch in the morning, and a small pinch a night...It looks like they literally dumped food into the tank each day. :wtf1:
The algae was so bad i could barely see the fish. I got home at midnight, and then spent 2 hours cleaning the substrate and doing a water changes. I hope they dont bloat up on me, but i guess we will see.:spend:
Here's to you Bec N Call :flipa:

I didn't mean it because of the Brichardi I meant it because of the reputation of the seller. That thing is going to be a mess so I was just looking out for you and your $$$

I'm sure if it's the seller's fault for any loss then I am sure he will cover it.... but who knows, you might be right Dane.

Dont get me wrong, im nervous as hell about this deal, but if it works the payoff is huge. I hope i dont end up regretting the deal, but anything worth doing has some risk to it... We will see if i end up eating my words. :spend:

Who is the seller?
Goathead
12-02-2007, 10:16 AM
Its an exporter from Africa. Dane did some research on for me and apparently they used to be reputable, but then they lost their main guy, and everything went to hell. Gives me good reason to be nervous, but its to good of an opportunity to pass on.. What can you do!!

If I'm not mistaken Dane wanted to take part in the order as well...but was turned down due to it being for hobbyist and not for resale so if they are not reputable anymore Dane was wanting to take the risk as well.
Also the importer has brought in fish from them before so I am sure he would not order again if they were not reliable to risk losing fish and possibly ruin his rep with sup a public group order.
It could turn out really bad and everyone will lose fish and what I fear most is all those that have never kept tropheus or new WC's jumping on the wagon cause the price was right and justifiable if there was a loss. I backed out of the order cause space is limited and there was nothing that really made me itch but I hope the best comes from it cause I would like to join in if there happens to be another group buy from another collection point.

Dane was on board prior to the research. He also said that the problems were a while ago, so they could have brought on another knowledgeable guy/girl. For me the juice is worth the squeeze.. This will be my first attempt at Wild Caught Tropheus, but ive done the research, and wont be going in blind. I have been keeping tropheus for a short time, but with 100% success. I hope i havent overlooked anything with WC Trophs..

Keep a close eye on them when you first get them in....nothing to drastic and a little is better the too much initially.
Metrondizole/Clout/Furan2 is something you want close by.

No Chaitikas coming for me. There is confusion on Geoff and mikes part about how shipping is to be split. Its only a $50 difference, but if the two people in charge aren't on the same page, it doesn't speak well for the deal. I am going to get some Trophs from Dane. Juvies unfortunately, but at least i can be 100% about the deal.

This is off topic...but its close...
Why would someone want wild caught over F1's. The wild caught have to go through all the stress of being removed from the lake...stored, and then shipped.
No wonder there are so many issues with them. This doesn't even take into consideration the difference of food and growing accustom to eating flake or pellet.
I think ek said it the the f1's generally have better color also.
So why the hang up on WC's?
Goathead
12-03-2007, 04:47 PM
i wasnt necessarily hung up on WC Trophs. It was adult fish for Juvenile prices that i was most excited about. I agree WC fish are harder to deal with, and generally dont look as good as F1 or F2. I still feel terrible about leaving those guys hanging, but i have to look out for me.

Wow...I didn't realize that you got adult sized fish for juvie prices. I guess that makes it make sense for me...
thanks.

i think it was just confusion, both those guys seem pretty stand up, but it was enough to scare me off. Especially since Dane researched the exporter and didnt have anything good to say.
